The standard precision rifle shooting (PRS) magazines are of the Accuracy International Chassis System (AICS) pattern. The AICS magazines are detachable box magazines, known for their widespread reliability and compatibility.
You can encounter various situations in PRS competitions, including dust and random debris. We suggest cleaning and disassembling your magazines to remove any particulates that may have fallen into them, which will help prevent feed issues in future events. Make sure to lubricate the springs and inspect the followers and feed lips for any signs of wear.
Accuracy International Chassis System (AICS) pattern magazines are compatible with most precision rifle shooting (PRS) chassis. Due to the widespread use of the AICS pattern, this style of magazine is readily available.
Magazines are typically made from a high-strength polymer, such as those used in Magpul and MDT magazines, or from steel, as seen in Accuracy International AICS magazines. Polymer is a lighter option and can be more cost-effective, while Accuracy International's steel magazines are durable and will last.
For a typical PRS match, you typically want to carry 2 to 4 magazines: one loaded and 1 to 3 spares. Ten-round magazines are the standard, but having a 5-round magazine can be helpful on stages with limited round counts. To prolong the life of magazine springs and ensure reliability, it's a good idea to rotate your magazines regularly.
